A short introduction

Semifinal is your archetypal rock club, located smack dab in the center of Helsinki. It has a good sounding room with a high ceiling and it’s walls have witnessed an impressive amount of intimate and brilliant gigs (and some real stinkers too but, hey, we’ve been operating since December 1993 averaging 200 shows a year).

And it’s small. Hence backstage is just a funky enclosure next to the stage – no locks, no showers, no private toilets (primadonnas beware!). Still, we’ve got a decent sized stage, enough lights and an optimal PA system. You bring with you an attitude matching ours and off we go! Once again.

CATERING

In April 2003 HIM played a memorable seven night stint at Semifinal.

Ville Valo (vocals, HIM): ”We know that we’re going to play Semifinal (and not, say, an Enormodome… or even the five times bigger neighbouring Tavastia) so a case of beer will be fine. Two if we sell out.”
Roudi (venue manager, a.k.a. Tomi Hämäläinen): ”Sounds fair.”
Janne Vuori (FOH, HIM): ”How about a bottle of Jägermeister, Sir?”
Roudi: ”Oh, well. If you sell out all seven nights in less than three hours it’s a deal.”

Denmark’s finest, D:A:D, for their part were happy with one (sic) bottle (sic!!) of beer and two fresh bass strings. Now that’s a bit spartan even when you take our limited resources into account… So, you can expect a nice hot meal, soft drinks, some beer, clean towels and that kind of useful stuff. Oh yes, and you will be treated amicably and with respect.

There’s an old Semifinal saying: ”He who refrains from sending us silly riders will not be force-fed brown fuckin’ M&M’s.” Damn right!

(The HIM tickets sold out in two and half hours. So, yes, Jägermeister it was. Cheers, mates!)
